What do I do when I’m sick with the flu?

My brother sent me this and it made me smile, especially in my sicky state. Thought I’d pass it on.

The Pope took a couple of days off to visit the mountains of Alaska for some sight-seeing. He was cruising along the campground in the Popemobile when there was a frantic commotion just at the edge of the woods.

A helpless liberal, wearing sandals, shorts, a “Save the Whales” hat, and a “To Hell with Bush” T-shirt, was screaming while struggling frantically, thrashing around trying to free himself from the grasp of a 10-foot grizzly.

As the Pope watched horrified, a group of Republican loggers came racing up. One quickly fired a .44 magnum into the bear’s chest. The other two reached up and pulled the bleeding semiconscious Democrat from the bear’s grasp. Then using long clubs, the three loggers finished off the bear and two of them threw it onto the bed of their truck while the other tenderly placed the injured Liberal in the back seat.

As they prepared to leave, the Pope summoned them to come over. “I give you my blessing for your brave actions!” he told them. “I heard there was a bitter hatred between Republican loggers and liberal environmental activists but now I’ve seen with my own eyes that this is not true.”

As the Pope drove off, one of the loggers asked his buddies “Who was that guy?”

It was the Pope,” another replied. “He’s in direct contact with Heaven and has access to all wisdom.”

Well,” the logger said, “he may have access to all wisdom but he sure doesn’t know anything about bear hunting! By the way, is the bait holding up, or do we need to go back to San Francisco and snatch another?”

Ah, the memories…

Tonight I’m a bit nostalgic about past drama experiences. More so past musical experiences (except for one murder mystery which was just mayhem). Even more so past musical experiences with my little brother. Maybe I just miss my little brother, not that he’s little anymore. In fact, he’s a good six inches taller than me, married, and has two cute kids.
Anyway, tonight I had several voice lessons in a row and my last student was singing “In My Own Little Cornerâ€? from Cinderella. As I was playing the song on the piano over and over I kept thinking about how Dave and I used to sing songs from musicals at the piano. One summer we borrowed every musical we could find from the library. We watched Pirates of Penzance so many times we could sing the entire score from memory (came in very handy in college when I didn’t have to spend any time memorizing lines). While doing the dishes we’d recite and sing Pirates until we got the dishes done, then picked up where we left off the next night. The summer of my sophomore year in high school Dave and I were in the chorus of two community theatre musicals, the first of which was Cinderella. We learned the songs together singing them at the piano and we even practiced the waltz together on the cement slab behind the garage.
Those were the days. I’m so glad I’m going to visit him in April, not to sing songs necessarily and certainly not to waltz, but just to experience again how cool it is to have fun with my “little” brother.

Moving Day Approacheth…

In about an hour we will be doing a final walkthrough of our new home, tomorrow we close. I am so excited I can hardly wait! So far, everything has gone smoothly and hopefully closing will not be delayed. What an exciting week!

Betcha didn’t know this about me…

Sometimes Walmart makes you think…

Last night I was in Walmart and did not notice a single white person working. But what I did see were Asians working really really hard. It reminded me of several conversations my husband and I have had recently about the trend of our generation. My grandma worked hard in factory jobs she didn’t like most of her life. She never made it past 7th grade, yet my grandma had such a positive impact on our family and I’ve missed her so much since she went home to heaven in August. My dad was the first in his family to go to college, yet he had all intentions of becoming a farmer before a friend talked him into going to Northwestern Prep. Yet it seems like those our age and younger don’t have that kind of integrity. Yes, they have a college education, but it seems very few are willing to work in a job just to support a family. My hubby isn’t perfect by any means, but we’ve often talked about what he was willing to do to support me. He worked as a dispatcher for a taxi company, then went to work as an Admin Clerk for the state. A low paying job that had nothing to do with his PC Specialist degree. He worked hard so he could support me. Later was an internet tech which he was very knowledgable in but hated the job. Yet he worked hard and lots of overtime in a job he hated and wasn’t really interested in because he wanted to support his family. Only in the past sixth months–nearly 6 years after that taxi company–has he been working in a job he really loves. I admire and greatly respect him for that. I admire the Asians working in Walmart who can’t speak much English yet are willing to work hard at minimum wage jobs to support their families. Have we Americans lost that work integrity that we see in our immigrant grandparents and immigrants of today? I wonder…
