***Crazy Moose Sighting***

Yesterday afternoon a moose came to visit. He was all nice and everything until Sean opened the door for a better view. Shortly after he started video recording the moose, the moose charged the door! Sean quickly closed it, but after that the moose went nuts, running around in circles, charging the building, and making loud noises. We’re not sure why, but Sean suggested that maybe he smelled my freshly baked banana bread and wanted in to get some. I’ll post the video later on.

Dad’s Joyaversary

Today is my dad’s eighth Joyaversary–a word coined by my brother to commemorate the day Dad went home to heaven. A lot of images and memories come flooding back to me around Thanksgiving, some of the hospital, some just of life with Dad. I was thinking last night about one particular day when I was really small. I don’t know what the occasion was, only that there were a lot of men in our living room talking–maybe a pastors’ get together or something. I wandered into this forest of black pants and shiny shoes looking for my dad. When I thought I found him, I hugged his leg. An unfamiliar voice said, “Well, hello there!” I looked way, way up and saw a complete stranger looking down at me! I panicked and started crying. Suddenly I felt two strong arms pick me up and my dad’s voice telling me, “It’s okay, Rachie. I’m right here.”
That’s one thing about Dad–he was always right there. When a favorite toy broke, when I was sick and had to go to the doctor, when I got into a car accident, when I was in trouble with Mom, Dad would hold me and let me cry and then somehow fix the problem so everything was okay. I love my Daddy and while I don’t wish him back, I really miss him. Happy Joyaversary.

***Moose Sighting***

Right now there are two moose in our yard–one with antlers. I tried to get pictures, but it’s 1:30 a.m. and therefore too dark. Pretty cool sight, though.

One Cool Grandma!

One of my dearest friends recently became a Grandma. The baby’s parents, one a Lutheran, one nondenominational, could not come to an agreement on whether or not to baptize the baby. My friend was taking care of the baby recently and decided she couldn’t let Satan have her grandbaby, so she took the baby into the bathroom and baptized it! She told the baby’s Lutheran parent, who thought it was great, and her pastor, who also thought she did the right thing. Now it’s up to the Lutheran to tell the nondenominational, which probably won’t happen for a while. Kudos to my friend for the courage to give her grandbaby the gift of salvation!

Maybe Luther isn’t stupid…

When Luther had entered the tank, it was also occupied by 4 adult and 7 or 8 baby ghost shrimp. We are now down to one adult ghost shrimp. I think Luther’s feasting on seafood.

Luther is stupid!

Not Martin Luther, Luther the beta fish. I honestly don’t know why or how he’s still alive. Food can fall right in front of his face and still he won’t eat it. We’ve tried 3 different kinds of beta food and still he just sits there and watches it–this morning he even swam right through it!!! He must be eating something (I haven’t seen a baby shrimp in a while) because he’s been in there since the 30th, but apparently not at breakfast or dinner time.
