Open Season on PETA?

I can’t believe this! Not like I’m a big Katie Couric fan, but protesting her catching a Salmon? There’s got to be some way to thin out the herd of PETA people!

SOMEONE should blog about this…

I was going to blog about a Worship Conference I’m going to, but that’ll wait. Instead I think I’ll blog about church fellowship. Sort of.
Yesterday I found my Baptismal Certificate which, in Methobapticostal terms, is a piece of paper noting my Spiritual Birthday. My baptism, and that of babies, has become more and more important and significant to me over this past year. So significant that I framed my Baptism Certificate today. In looking at it, however, I noticed something very interesting. Since my dad was also my pastor, he filled out the certificate. I have an interesting situation in that I don’t have Godparents, but Godfathers–my mom’s two cousins, Mark and Kevin. Dad listed them as sponsors. The interesting thing is that they are both LCMS and usually Godparents that are members of a church not WELS or in fellowship with the WELS are listed as witnesses, not sponsors.
This got me thinking of other conversations I had with Dad, most notably when I was a freshman in high school. I was living with my Grandma and she was in the hosptal for a week. I was staying with my Great Aunt and Uncle who are Methodist, and they wanted me to pray with them. In a phone call home that night I asked Dad what to do. He said, “What do you think you should do?” I said, “Well, they believe in Jesus as their Savior just like me.” Dad’s reply? “Then pray with them.” It is one of the few conversations with my Dad that I can remember word for word, so vividly I remember exactly where I was standing, the phone cord wrapped around my finger, and the wallpaper in the kitchen.
I recalled further my experiences teaching at an LCMS school. Neither my WELS pastor nor the LCMS pastor questioned my praying with them. I even played for worship twice at that church!
In an interesting thesis by Dr. Mark Braun, he explains that although the principle of fellowship is Biblical, the application has been evolving into something different from its original intent. I’d be interested in any input about this. Especially regarding prayer and worship fellowship.

Seinfeldisms

Ever get those days where your train of thought seems like something out of Seinfeld? Today was one of those days. I had trouble focusing today (more on that later) and these are thoughts that popped into my head:

Do telemarketers call celebreties?
How do telemarkers react when they get calls from telemarketers?
What’s the difference between a baby cow’s “moo” and an adult cow’s “moo”? Do animals speak baby talk like humans do?
How come you wash dishes in a dishwasher, clothes in a clothes washer, but people aren’t washed in a people washer but a shower?

Something to laugh about…

Being that I have a music degree and conducting experience, I found this hilarious.

Mosart

I try to check the daily comics from this site every week day because some of them are quite funny. I really need to lighten up, so these often help!

When it makes the Mrs. laugh, post it!

I was actually looking through a scrapbooking website to find some suitable quote for a Mother’s Day card when I found this one and it made me laugh. Laughing is not only unusual for me, but especially laughing at a poem about bugs when I’ve been dealing with ants in my kitchen! So in honor of National Poetry Month:

The Termite
by Ogden Nash

Some primal termite knocked on wood
And tasted it, and found it good!
And that is why your Cousin May
Fell through the parlor floor today.

He’s Alive!

I feel rather blasphemus with that title, but in watching CSI: Miami tonight not only did we learn that Horatio’s brother Ray is still alive, his supposed killer is deep under cover! Also, Delco went into therapy for help in dealing with Speedle’s death. Pretty exciting twist!

Mr. Fix-It

Last night the dishwasher was making a horrible noise. My husband checked it out, took it apart, and found a little pebble stuck in it. I had recently used decorator pebbles in the kitchen and dropped a few, one must have landed in the dishwasher. I was reminded how wonderful God is to send a catastrophe-prone woman, such as myself, a man who knows how to take things apart and fix them. Thank you, Lord!

Interesting comments

If you, like me, are a confessional Lutheran yet still defend the Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren (are there any of those out there?) you might enjoy reading this post and comments. It was certainly helpful to me.

Minnie Moose Goes to the Movies…

Last Friday night my hubby and I decided to rent a romantic movie and relax for once (he’s been spending all his spare time on Cisco stuff). So we rented Closer. Big mistake. We both hated it, the acting wasn’t all that great, and it ended the same way it began with hardly any character development. We both just felt empty afterwards–like we spent two hours just staring at a blank screen. We decided that we’d complain and ask for a different movie (you can do that 6 times a year at the Movie Gallery). So at 11 p.m. we headed out to get a different movie. They gave us a free movie with no problem, so we got The Prince & Me. It was cute, funny, and very interesting.
The chick is supposedly from Manitowoc, but the Manitowoc they showed wasn’t the Manitowoc I grew up in. They made it seem like a dinky little town. Then she goes to the University, but they don’t specify which one. Since one of her friends is from Milwaukee, it’s not UW-Milwaukee. But it was considered a big party University, which led me to believe it was probably Madison. Then in the bar (an on-campus bar, no less) there was a big sign for Point Beer so maybe it was UW-Stevenspoint. Anyway, she, working as a bartender, recommended Leinenkugel’s which made it a great movie right there! Then she meets the Prince of Denmark, they become friends, and she invites him home for Thanksgiving. And wouldn’t you know it–at the end of November the trees and grass are still green and there’s no snow! Wonder what part of Manitowoc County has summer all year round?
While the Danish prince is there he and her brothers race in a lawn mower race. Now, I grew up in Manitowoc County and went to high school in Manitowoc and never once heard of lawn mower racing in Manitowoc County. The closest I came was nearly hitting a cow that had escaped from the neighboring farm and ran right in front of the lawn mower while I was mowing (I almost hit a tree!). If we knew there were lawn mower races, I’m sure we would have convinced Dad to take us. It was a good movie, though, compared to what we had just seen and we both laughed at the references to Wisconsin (including one “Minnesota sucks–Wisconsin rocks!” line), but their screenwriters certainly didn’t do their homework.
There’s my Minnie Moose review.

I should add…

That he’s right on target with temper tantrums so at least we know his original sin is working!

Ludicrous Rediculous Absurdity

I learned from one of my brothers today that according to the “experts” my loveable nephew isn’t developing as fast as he should be. Why? because he can’t say six words, couldn’t stack blocks at the testing site (but did at home!), and couldn’t walk backwards. What??? Walk backwards? Who needs to walk backwards at a year and a half?? So I decided to do some research on my own, considering I would defend any of my nephews or my neice to the very death. This site says they should be able to say 8-10 words, this site says they should be able to say 30-50 words, and this site says more than 200 words! Likewise, this site says they should be able to stack 3-6 blocks, this site wants him to build a 6 cube tower, and this site only demands he be able to stack 2 blocks!
My conclusion? So called experts don’t know anything–they can’t even agree amongst themselves. The worst part of this is that they made my sister-in-law feel like a terrible mom when everybody that knows her can vouch for her being a great mom! He’s a smart little guy and no one should be able to label him as “underdeveloped” for his age when God is ultimately in control of his wonderful biological make-up. What ludicrousness (yes, it’s a word)!!!

Another new Lutheran blog!

This is so exciting–yet another Lutheran blog. Check it out!

Not quite all there

The pastors at Preach. Teach. Confess. posted about this denominational quiz. Guess there’s still a little Methobapticostalism in me. Probably due to my lack of enthusiasm for the liturgy.

Do people in WI have nothing else to do?

I’m beginning to wonder. My two brothers and other relatives aside, I think the majority Wisconsinites are wacky. There have been crazy things coming out of Madison, but this article made me laugh in a cynical sort of way. If a great liberal leader had died, like Jesse Jackson for instance, these people wouldn’t bat an eye about the flag being flown at half mast for a week in the name of civil rights. But here we have a conservative (and may I add pro-life!) religious world leader, respected by Catholics and non-Catholics alike for his leadership and accomplisments, being recognized on a state and national level and the whiny liberals can’t handle it.

“We have to ask whether this would be done for other cleric – the Dalai Lama or Jewish or Muslim leaders.” –Tony Hileman, executive director, American Humanist Association in Washington, D.C.

Give me a break! They already have our public schools where Hanukkah, Kwaanza, and Ramadan are celebrated without contest but CHRISTmas cannot even be recognized. They already have our Judicial system which has shown its power to legally murder unborn babies and helpless adults. Lowering the flag isn’t directly influencing anybody, just showing respect for a man who made great strides socially as well as being a religious figure. It’s not like they’re handing out rosaries at the foot of each flagpole!

I need to quote Elle from one of her posts, because it is so appropriate to add here as well:

“I sometimes hope God will have mercy on us as a country, but hope for mercy is slowly turning into a desire to see us get what is rightfully ours. Is that sick of me? I don’t know. We have it coming, that’s for sure. I just don’t want to be around when it gets here.”

My sentiments exactly!

As if Society isn’t corrupt enough…

I knew it wouldn’t be long, but was astonished to see that CBS has decided to make a TV movie of Terri the day after she died. I was not surprised to see the deal with Michael Shiavo. How else would he be made to look like a good guy? I hope they don’t omit the common law wife and two kids. If I had the power to smite anyone, it would be him. There are some days when it makes me physically ill to be alive and breathing in this day and age. How I long for heaven!
