How would I really react?

Last night Hubby and I went to a movie with good friends of hours who we like to do “childless couples” things with. Which movie we went to really isn’t that important, but about halfway through we saw a large full soda being flung over the wall into the theatre. A short while later another large soda was flung into the audience, and shortly after that, a bag of popcorn. While we were sitting far enough up to not be hit, we could see popcorn and soda landing on people several rows in front of us. Our friend went to report it, and apparently three teenagers were upset at being kicked out of the movies and decided to take their “revenge” by throwing food over the wall at people.
After the movie his wife remarked how the first soda being flung over the wall just shocked everyone, and nobody made a move because it didn’t really register what was happening. She mused that if there was ever a terrorist attack would we be so stunned and not really know what’s happening that we wouldn’t move? It was a good question to pose. How ready are we as citizens if something other than a large soda were to fly at us and land close to where we were busy at our everyday activities? Something to think about.

Outrageous Reporting

A friend sent me this link to a slideshow courtesy of WWLTV of the devastation in New Orleans. This picture caught my attention. Why? Because of the caption:

A man trapped on the roof of his house tries to get the attention of a helicopter for rescue after floodwaters rose in New Orleans Tuesday.

NO

My first thought was “You idiot! YOU’RE in a helicopter!!!” I tell ya, I’m getting more and more ticked off at reporters. I’m glad Erica at Journalistic Jargon has seen the light and I can only hope my MiL doesn’t pursue reporting as a career. Apparently one of the requirements is put your job over the needs of others.

Do people in WI have nothing else to do?

I’m beginning to wonder. My two brothers and other relatives aside, I think the majority Wisconsinites are wacky. There have been crazy things coming out of Madison, but this article made me laugh in a cynical sort of way. If a great liberal leader had died, like Jesse Jackson for instance, these people wouldn’t bat an eye about the flag being flown at half mast for a week in the name of civil rights. But here we have a conservative (and may I add pro-life!) religious world leader, respected by Catholics and non-Catholics alike for his leadership and accomplisments, being recognized on a state and national level and the whiny liberals can’t handle it.

“We have to ask whether this would be done for other cleric – the Dalai Lama or Jewish or Muslim leaders.” –Tony Hileman, executive director, American Humanist Association in Washington, D.C.

Give me a break! They already have our public schools where Hanukkah, Kwaanza, and Ramadan are celebrated without contest but CHRISTmas cannot even be recognized. They already have our Judicial system which has shown its power to legally murder unborn babies and helpless adults. Lowering the flag isn’t directly influencing anybody, just showing respect for a man who made great strides socially as well as being a religious figure. It’s not like they’re handing out rosaries at the foot of each flagpole!

I need to quote Elle from one of her posts, because it is so appropriate to add here as well:

“I sometimes hope God will have mercy on us as a country, but hope for mercy is slowly turning into a desire to see us get what is rightfully ours. Is that sick of me? I don’t know. We have it coming, that’s for sure. I just don’t want to be around when it gets here.”

My sentiments exactly!

Finally someone who tells it like it is!

All this bad media coverage of the war in Iraq and lately in Fallujah has really been aggravating. Our soldiers are doing their job and protecting freedom over there and we can’t even give them some positive support? I am so tired of hearing about this video of the soldier shooting an “unarmed” insurgent. Why don’t we ever hear the stories leading up to these so-called “brutalities”? Well, Mike Reagan wrote an article and posted it on his website, and you should really check it out. He blasts the media and exposes them for their left-wing conspiracies.
